CHM Group (Traffic Management and Highway Maintenance Specialists) was formed in Ireland in 1999. As work on the road network in Ireland increased and CHM’s involvement grew, it became apparent that operatives involved in Temporary Traffic Management situations required safety training to ensure the Safety of themselves and of other road users. Following consultation between CHM Group Directors, Local Authorities, and other Road Governing Authorities, agreement was reached that CHM should develop and implement relevant safety training courses.
In 2004 CHM launched their Safety Training Division. Chapter 8 legislation controlling Temporary Traffic Management Operations had been in operation in the UK since the beginning of the 1990’s so the obvious place to go to find the right calibre of people to help set up a 2Best in Class” training division was the UK. Steven Archer (Training Director) joined with CHM in developing and delivering Safety on the Highway courses that would be best suited to the Irish legislation. Steven is a trainer of trainers with FAS/CSCS certification (the only private sector trainer with this certification from FAS/CSCS), and a trainer with over 9 years experience in training for the highways. These courses were specifically designed for the Temporary Traffic Management situation and the target participants were the Local Authorities and the major contractors in Ireland.
Under Steven’s directorship the training company is growing and now employs five fulltime trainers, twelve contractors, plus clerical administration staff. CHM Health and Safety Training Ltd are currently delivering nationwide three FAS/CSCS certified courses i.e. Signing, Lighting and Guarding at Roadworks, Location of Underground Services, and Health and Safety at Roadworks, plus a number of other related courses including the High Sped and Mobile Lane Closure courses. Since the inception of our training division, we have processed in excess of 600 people through our courses. Our success rate of over 96% for all CSCS certificate courses is a true testament to the quality and experience of our trainers and our commitment to excellence.
