Traffic Management Design for Cone 9 Software. PDF Print E-mail
We offer a 3-day course that comprehensively covers all aspects of traffic management planning and design. We can adapt the training to meet individual company requirements for specific contracts they are presently working on.

The course is intended for a maximum of six participants. Each delegate will be provided with their own set of handouts along with, in day 2 and 3, a laptop to use. This enables them gain practical experience in design by working on live drawings  which they may  use on existing projects.

Day 1: Developing a Temporary Traffic Management Design Plan
  • Health and Safety: Responsibility of both the employer and the employee.
  • Documentation from client to contractor: Specific traffic management appendixes 1/13, 1/17, 1/18, 1/20.
  • Planning: Development of a health and safety plan.
  • Site Visits: Information to be collected to allow appropriate traffic management for both contractor and travelling public.
  • Pre Design Risk and Hazard Assessment:  Recording the hazards on site leading to the reasons why the traffic management is designed in a specific way.
  • Chapter 8: Explanation of this and associated documents.
  • Design: example of the process along with a visual demonstration using Auto-Cad Cones 9 traffic management design package.
  • Method Statements/Risk Assessment:  Document preparation and the content, which these documents should contain.
  • Programme: Can the installation, switch and removal be completed within the time allocated?
  • Training: Sector Schemes 12A, 12B, 12C and 12D.
  • Documentation to client from contractor: Traffic management plan, Quality plan, design drawings, method statements / risk assessments, insurance documentation and CV and training records of site personnel.
  • Documentation for Operatives: Job pack, drawings and design, daily record sheets, defect sheets, traffic count forms, permission to work, incident forms.
  • Good Working Practices: Industry standards along with national documentation available giving advice.
Day 2: Introduction into AutoCad and Cone 9 Temporary Traffic Management Design System.

An introduction into the basic commands and the use of icon shortcuts of AutoCAD, relevant to the production of traffic management designs. This will include a full in-depth practical in the use of the Cones 9 package. Topics included will cover inserting schematic traffic management blocks to schematic specific design and designing to scale using Ordnance Survey information.  At the end of this second day the candidates will have the basic knowledge required to design traffic management plans.

Day 3: Temporary Traffic Management Design Practical.

A practical day bringing together the knowledge acquired in the first two days and putting this into practice. The delegates will work on a specific traffic management plan applicable to their own company’s type of work whether it be street-works or high-speed and prepared to scale if required. The design will be completed with guidance/assistance from our design team to address any practical/technical problems they might encounter during this exercise.

Each candidate will be issued with a certificate for his or her CPD portfolio on completion.
